Overall Data Governance for the MIAP project incorporates aspects of all the following documents:

• Data Governance Overview
  This explains how MIAP intends to implement data governance and comply with the Data Protection Act.
• The Data Service, the Information Authority and MIAP 
  This describes the three LSC organisational business units and the relationship between them.
• The Information Authority
  This describes the role of the Information Authority: regulating data standards and collection from Further Education and Training organisations in England.
• MIAP Standard Fair Processing Notice (FPN)
  This document offers:
  - guidance to organisations intending to develop a FPN, and 
  - advice on informing individuals on how their information will be used and shared.
• Verification Guidelines
  Information regarding the process of recording the verification of a learners Identity at enrolment.
• Learner Registration Service, Learner Record & Data Protection Summary
  Information and guidance on data protection. The content of the document is for information only. Please seek legal advice with regard to data protection.

Common data definitions

Work on defining a common standard for exchanging data has been ongoing since 2004 and is a central principle of the MIAP programme. It will allow individuals and organisations to share information about learning participation and achievements. Use the title link, above, to read more.

Fair processing Notice
Local Authorities and schools can review the data sharing guidance from the DCSF (the Fair Processing Notice) and understand how your organisation is effected. This can be found on Teachernet at http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/management/
