MIAP Managing Information Across Partners

User requirements

The MIAP Programme Board has agreed the following key user requirements from the programme. These are:

Learners want

  • access to their participation and achievement data
  • the ability to easily share their information in a secure and controlled way
  • access to published information on education and training services relevant to them
  • to identify themselves only once and not have the burden of re-identifying themselves when subsequently enrolling or contacting education and training service providers.

Learning Providers want

  • to be able to access, or extract with consent, a learners record to facilitate efficient registration and enrolment,
  • verification of the learner’s accredited achievement and to facilitate better services to the learner
  • less bureaucracy by reducing the need to satisfy multiple requests for similar learner data across the academic year
  • to be able to describe their services and capabilities to the MIAP user community

Analysts want

  • access to aggregated MIAP information and published information, to view it, or to extract it to their own systems where it can be subsequently manipulated

Awarding Bodies want

  • to use a Unique Learner Number for securely identifying a learner’s record to evidence prior accredited learning
  • less bureaucracy by reducing in the need to satisfy multiple requests for similar learner data across the academic year, based around being able to uniquely identify learners

Employers want

  • access to information on learning providers and awarding bodies and the services they offer
  • access to an employee or applicant’s achievement and training record to assess their suitability for a role

Learning Advisors want

  • access to a learner’s record
  • access to information about learning providers’ services
