Data Challenge Tool

This tool is for trialling only and can be downloaded on to your desktop for use.


It is intended for use when you think:

  • a ULN created by accident requires deletion
  • you have identified a duplicate ULN
  • you have identified a problem with the MIAP Service
  • someone is using another person's ULN

This tool is part of the MIAP Data Challenge process. It relies heavily on your relationship with the learner in order to confirm that the challenge is legitimate. The tool is compressed inside a zip file and should be downloaded on to your desktop for use in the following way:

Important - Please remember that the forms generated by the Tool for using for a Data Challenge may contain personal details. When sending these forms to the HelpDesk, please ensure that they are encrypted if sending via email and if posting, they should be marked:

  • PERSONAL-PRIVATE (if only contain personal details for 1 person) and
  • PERSONAL-PROTECT (if contain more than 1 person’s personal details).

Instructions for use:

  • Click on the link to the Data Challenge Tool
  • A File Download dialogue box will appear, click the option to Save.
  • Save As Desktop and Create New Folder which should be called Data Challenge Tool. Click Open.
  • Click Save and the files will be downloaded to your desktop.
  • When complete – message Download complete will appear.
  • Click Open.
  • Click Extract.
  • Click Desktop and Data Challenge Tool folder.
  • Important: Ensure the Use Folder Names box is ticked.
  • Click Extract.
  • When finished, open folder (Data Challenge Tool) on desktop.
  • Open START-HERE folder.
  • Open Index.htm to begin using the tool.
  • Remember to delete original zip file from Data Challenge Tool folder as this is no longer needed.
