MIAP Managing Information Across Partners

Learners and Parents - Vision

The main aim of the MIAP programme is to create a single system to manage information for and about Learners.

More than 90% of 14 year old learners in English state schools have a Unique Learner Number, which is the key to their Learner Record.

Learner Records mean that anyone over the age of 14, involved in any kind of education or training, will not need to retain or reproduce proof each time they apply for a new course or job opportunity. Instead, the learner or applicant will grant the school, college or employer access to part of their Learner Record.

This means:

  • their application can be processed more quickly;
  • the bureaucracy and the cost of managing paperwork is reduced;
  • original certificates, and proof of qualifications cannot be lost in the post or between organisations.

As the Learner Record will become the universal standard for information about qualifications and training, learning providers will also adapt to meet the standard. It is expected that by 2011, more than 80% of all Learning Providers, Information, Advice & Guidance services will regularly be using the Learner Record. This standardisation will allow learners to compare their skills and experience against the entire range of opportunities available to them quickly and without significant effort.
