Newly improved Learner Registration Service

MIAP plans to introduce a newly updated version of the Learner Registration Service in April. This version will include an improved set of matching algorithms within the Learner Registration Service that will reduce the number of possible learner and Unique Learner Number mismatches. These changes come as a result of the feedback gained from the early adopters who have been using the Service since September last year. It will also help ensure the integrity of the ULN.

Learner Registration Bodies using the batch interface implemented last year will still be able to use their existing interfaces as MIAP is ensuring backwards compatibility.

This new version will also make live web services link with the Learner Registration Service. These services will allow stakeholders to call the Learner Registration Service directly from within their own MIS systems. The majority of web services were made live [last year/earlier this year] and have already been used successfully by the Diploma Aggregation Service.

This version also includes the introduction of two new services. One is about the ability to request details of Unique Leaner Numbers that have been merged/unmerged and also deleted and the other is the expansion of the organisation reference code from 6 to 8 characters. This will allow the use of the full UK Provider Reference Number to identify organisations. Again, MIAP will put in place arrangements to ensure these services are compatible with existing users batch interfaces to the Learner Registration Service.
