Services and Products

The Learning Records Service (formerly known as the MIAP) is an IT enabled, data centric set of shared services built on the principle of collect once, use many times and used by all that are entitled to do so and serves the whole of the education sector. It offers three key services to enable data sharing across the education sector:

Learning Provider Register (formerly called UK Register of Learning Providers) - allocates Provider Reference Numbers (PRNs) to act as a single common identifier for UK learner registration bodies. It brokers key information about learning providers to enable data sharing.

Learner Register (previously referred to as the Learner Registration Service LRS) - generates a Unique Learner Number (ULN) for learners 14+ to act as a single common identifier for UK learners.

Personal Learning Record  - brings together information in one place already collected by education bodies including minimal demographic details, learning particpation and achievement, providing a lifelong record which learners can share with education providers and employers if they choose to do so.

The Learning Records Service provides a suite of free products, tools and services to the whole of the education sector. We also put the learner, candidate, pupil and student along with the provider, centre, school, college and training establishment at the heart of everything we do.

From September onwards, our new consolidated website will be www.learningrecordsservice.org.uk

We are gradually phasing in the new name across all platforms and materials with a name switchover date of 30th September 2010. You may still see the name MIAP in some of our applications.
