Personal Learning Record

Personal Learning Record logo

Welcome to the Personal Learning Record
Your Personal Learning Record is valuable evidence you can provide when looking for career advice, applying to study or seeking employment.

Anyone aged 16 or over can log-in to a secure website to view their very own Personal Learning Record providing they have a Unique Learner Number (ULN) and their own email address for login purposes.

Your record will display what you have studied and the qualifications and training you have achieved. Please note that it could take up to three or four months to display your achievement from the date of award.

What information is available?
Only formal school and further education learning and achievement records starting from 2007/08 academic year are stored. For example, GCSEs, A/S levels, NVQs, Apprenticeships and other further education course information is available. Higher education information like degrees is not available.

Who is providing the record?
The information stored in your Personal Learning Record is provided by the Skills Funding Agency in partnership with other educational organisations that you have agreed can collect and share information on your behalf. The Personal Learning Record allows you to access a government backed record of what you have learned and achieved through education and employment.

Who else can see my information?
The Skills Funding Agency shares your Personal Learning Record on your behalf with partner organisations (e.g. schools, colleges, universities and awarding bodies) that you have agreed can see your information. You have the choice to opt-out of sharing your record with these organisations at any time.

What if my information is wrong?
If you believe that some information in your Personal Learning Record is incorrect, or your record is missing some of your achievements, you can request that this is investigated by raising an enquiry through the Learner Portal. All enquiries are investigated. You will be notified of the results of your enquiries and, where your record is found to be incorrect or incomplete, appropriate corrections will be made to your Personal Learning Record.

Help for education related organisations
Learning providers and colleges can view the Personal Learning Record for any of their students who have not opted out of sharing their learning information. Further guidance about how to access Personal Learning Records and how to deal with enquiries from your students can be obtained from our Customer Helpdesk.

The Data Load Schedule can be accessed here

A key aim of the Personal Learning Record is to improve the flow of learning related information about pupils and learners from schools to colleges and other education providers and ultimately employers, leading to more effective information sharing and better decision making. The Personal Learning Record is also designed to help pupils, students, trainees and learners make their own informed decisions about their own future and career aspirations. You are always in control of your own Personal Learning Record.

New for September 2010 - Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)

We will be introducing online access to a Personal Learning Record, which supports Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT). Every unit and qualification in the QCF has a credit value. Credit Accumulation and Transfer enables learners to accumulate their achievements within the Personal Learning Record and transfer credit for these units between learning providers and awarding organisations in order for learners to gain full qualifications. The PLR provides valuable evidence for pupils, students and learners when they are looking for careers advice, applying to study or when seeking employment. It will be available for anyone aged 16+ so that they can log-in to a secure website to view their very own Personal Learning Record providing they have a Unique Learner Number (also referred to as a ULN). A key aim of the Personal Learning Record is to improve the flow of information about learners from schools to other education providers and ultimately employers, leading to more effective information and data sharing plus better informed decision making for pupils, students and learners.

The new PLR agreements for Awarding Bodies and Learning Providers which come into operation from September 2010 can be accessed here.
